Food safety
We value the trust people place in us. Quality control is critical, and food safety is a hallmark of FareShare’s success since our establishment (as “One Umbrella”) in 2001.
Food is collected by our driver and delivered direct to the FareShare kitchen, although some food donors deliver their bounty to us.
Two very experienced and highly adept professionals, each qualified Food Safety Officers, oversee our kitchen and supervise our kitchen volunteers. They deftly plan the creation of healthy meals from whatever donations we have on hand, whether they be regular stocks, or diverse one-off offerings. Julien Jane, our Production Manager, has over 20 years experience training people in food safety and handling.
In the past we have worked very closely with the City of Melbourne and Food Safety Victoria to ensure our food handling is maintained at the highest standard. More recently we updated our procedures with Process Partners – a business which advises food manufacturers on their operations.
All our volunteers are trained in safe food handling practise as part of their induction.
